Gratitude for Athletes: How the message of Thanksgiving can transform your game (and your life)

Gratitude for Athletes: How the message of Thanksgiving can transform your game (and your life)

What are you thankful for???

Let’s kick off this Thanksgiving week with a reminder of how much you have to be thankful for …

As an athlete … and …

As a human being.

The Spirit of Thanksgiving

Although you will probably be spending much of this upcoming week feasting and enjoying rivalry week,

May we remember the message of what this season brings …

To be grateful for all the blessings we have:

  • The bounty
  • The abundance
  • The relationships

During the first Thanksgiving …

The pilgrims came over looking to create a new settlement in America.

However, they did not have the skills or resources to survive the harsh winter environment.

The Native Americans helped out, sharing their resources and knowledge to help the pilgrims survive and create their settlement.

The Message for Your Game

As athletes, we can experience similar situations.

We have aspirations in charting new territory in our athletic development and performance.

However, we can experience rough patches and harsh environments …

Making us feel like we won’t survive!

But you have people around you that will provide you with the necessary wisdom and resources to keep going:

  • Your teammates
  • Your coaches
  • Your parents

And you will be equipped with the ability to continue onward towards your aspirations.

The Message for Your Life

As people, we can experience similar situations.

We have aspirations in charting new territory in our personal journeys.

However, we can experience rough patches and harsh environments …

Making us feel like we won’t survive!

But you have people around you that will provide you with the necessary wisdom and resources to keep going:

  • Your family
  • Your friends
  • Your mentors

And you will be equipped with the ability to continue onward towards your aspirations.

My Encouragement To You

May we remember what this holiday celebrates and all we have around us to be grateful for:

  • Our blessings
  • Our family, friends, and loved ones
  • Our opportunities to be lifted up by others and lift others up so we can all chart new territories as we serve each other together

When you experience rough patches …

Reach out to others because many people want to help you thrive.

And when others experience rough patches …

Be willing to support them to help them thrive as well.

I wish you well on your journey of remembering all you have to be grateful for, and I send love, gratitude, peace, and blessings to you.

Inspiring YOU every step of your way,

Kyle

Don't Compare, Compete: How Focusing on Yourself Unleashes Your True Potential

Don't Compare, Compete: How Focusing on Yourself Unleashes Your True Potential

Don’t Compare … Compete!!!

Comparison robs you of your expectations!!!

Are you constantly measuring yourself against others?

Do you often feel like you're not good enough?

Today, we're going to explore why focusing on yourself not only frees you up to perform your best as an athlete but also helps you become the person you were meant to be.

The Comparison Trap

As athletes, we often fall into the trap of comparison:

  • We don't think we're fast enough
  • We worry our vertical jump isn't high enough
  • We feel we don't see the field as well as others

This focus on our shortcomings can lead us to degrade ourselves and lose sight of who we truly are.

But here's the truth:

You should not compare yourself to others because you are an athlete unlike anybody else who has ever been or will ever be.

Your Unique Athletic Identity

You have a unique skill set and playing style that nobody else has ever had.

When you try to be like others, you're comparing yourself to an athlete you're not meant to be.

Instead, when you focus on your own unique skills and abilities, you allow yourself to perform as the athlete you were born to be.

Your Uniqueness as a Human Being

This principle extends far beyond the athletic field.

In life, many of us:

  • Never feel like we're good enough
  • Constantly compare ourselves to others
  • Criticize ourselves for how we don't measure up

But just like in sports, you have been placed on this planet for a reason.

You have a specific calling, a specific purpose that nobody else has ever had or will ever have.

Embracing Your Inner Genius

So, how can you break free from the comparison trap and unleash your true potential?

  1. Start focusing on the genius inside you
  2. Don't dwell on your imperfections, flaws, or shortcomings
  3. Connect with that deep ball of fire and bundle of energy inside you
  4. Focus on your inner light and how you can fully express it
  5. Use your unique gifts to uplift, enhance, and inspire the world around you

When you focus on who you are as a unique individual, you free yourself up to become the person you were born to be …

And …

You'll find that platform that enables you to be an inspiration and a light for those around you.

Let Your Authenticity Shine

My fervent hope and wish for you is this:

  • Stop comparing yourself to others
  • Focus on yourself and that fire, that light inside you
  • Allow it to glow and shine
  • Let it become a beacon to uplift, enhance, and inspire all those around you

Remember, comparison robs you of your potential …

But when you compete with yourself and focus on your unique gifts …

You unleash a power that can change not only your game but also your life and the lives of those around you.

I wish you well on your journey of dropping your comparisons and allowing your authentic light to shine, and I send love, gratitude, peace, and blessings to you.

Inspiring YOU every step of your way,

Kyle

Who Are Your Heroes??? How to walk the Hero’s Journey in your life

Who Are Your Heroes??? How to walk the Hero’s Journey in your life

Who are your favorite heroes???

  • Maybe they're superheroes like Batman or Spider-Man
  • Perhaps they're sports legends like Walter Payton
  • Or they could be social, political, and religious leaders like Jesus

Today, we're going to explore what you can learn from your heroes to help you on your journey in life.

The Hero's Journey

Recently, I was talking with some students about the hero's journey.

It's the plot structure of the books and movies we love:

  1. A character has a dream or vision
  2. They pursue that dream with enthusiasm
  3. Obstacles and villains appear, tempting them to give up
  4. Eventually, they find the courage to return to their path
  5. They overcome their challenges and rise triumphant
  6. Peace is restored, and they experience a profound internal transformation

We see this journey play out in countless stories

Remember Simba from The Lion King?

As a cub, all he wanted was to be king. But when tragedy struck, he ran away from his destiny. It wasn't until he faced his past and confronted Scar that he truly became the leader he was meant to be.

Or how about Rudy?

His dream of playing football for Notre Dame seemed impossible. He wasn't smart enough, so he studied harder than ever. He wasn't athletic enough, but he never gave up, spending four years on the practice squad. In the end, his perseverance paid off with a moment of glory on the field.

The Real Question

But here's the real question I want you to consider:

Who is the hero if not you???

And where is the journey if not within you???

You are the hero of your own journey.

You came into this world with dreams, visions, and callings that you eagerly want to pursue.

But like any hero, you've faced obstacles:

  • Fears that paralyze you
  • Doubts that cloud your judgment
  • Self-limiting beliefs that hold you back

These challenges might tempt you to run away from your dreams. But here's the truth: As you continue to be courageous and bold, you'll find yourself back on the path to your dreams.

Embrace Your Hero's Journey

So, what can you do to be the hero of your own story?

  1. Walk your path with courage and boldness
  2. Confront and overthrow your self-limiting beliefs
  3. Rise triumphant over your challenges
  4. Bring peace and prosperity to those around you
  5. Allow yourself to experience a profound internal transformation

Remember, you are the hero of your journey. The power to overcome, to triumph, and to transform lies within you. It's time to unleash that potential, not just in your game, but in the Larger Game of Life.

I wish you well on your journey of experiencing the Hero's Journey in your life, and I send love, gratitude, peace, and blessings to you.

Inspiring YOU every step of your way,

Kyle
