Made A New Year's Resolution Yet? How athletes and coaches can set resolutions that work

Are you planning on making a New Year’s resolution for this upcoming year???

If so, you may want to consider these guidelines because today I will be offering you some tips to help you make New Year’s resolutions for this upcoming year.

The “Normal” Way To Set Resolutions

Every year, the majority of people in the US set New Year’s resolutions.

But almost all of them fail to follow through on them for an entire year.

(Obviously, we have a problem here!!!)

The reason I believe most people don’t follow through on their resolutions is …

They set their resolutions as surface-level goals.

In my opinion, this way of setting resolutions isn’t compelling enough for people to follow through and it doesn’t create a transformation of heart that will enable people to naturally stick to their resolutions.

How I Recommend Setting Resolutions

Here is how I recommend setting resolutions …

Focus on the person you desire to be and on the qualities you desire to emulate, and all the surface-level goals will fall into place naturally.

Here’s an exercise for you:

Step 1- List ALL the qualities you desire and wish to emulate for 10-15 minutes

Set a timer for 10-15 minutes, write down all the qualities you admire and want to embody.

These could be qualities such as:

  • Honesty
  • Integrity
  • Discipline
  • Work ethic
  • And so on …

Step 2- Choose 1-3 most compelling topics you want to emulate

After completing your long list, choose the 1-3 topics that jump out at you most.

I say 1-3 because picking too many can dilute the amount to which your system will embody them. Once you develop those 1-3, you can choose more qualities in the future.

Step 3- Choose an action item that will demonstrate your qualities

After choosing your 1-3 topics, pick an action item for each one that will prove you are emulating that quality.

These could be actions such as:

  • Going to the weight room
  • Giving your teammates fist bumps and high fives
  • Keeping your word and being where you say you’ll be on time

When you demonstrate that you are the person you desire to be, you begin to create the transformation of heart that will enable all the surface level goals to fall into place …

AND …

You will find new opportunities to demonstrate those qualities and be that person without limiting yourself to a few goals and forcing your own way.

Recap

  1. Set your timer for 10-15 minutes and write down all the qualities you admire and would like to embody
  2. Choose the 1-3 qualities that stand out to you most
  3. Choose an action item for each quality that will demonstrate you are being that person

And then, experience the transformation of heart that will enable you to become the person that automatically follows through on those surface-level goals!

Athletes and coaches for Christ, I wish you well on your journey of experiencing the transformation of heart that will help you to be the person GOD has created you to be, and I send love, gratitude, peace, and blessings to you.

Inspiring YOU every step of your way,

Kyle

Have You Answered Your Call??? How the Christmas Story can empower athletes and coaches to pursue their Journey

Have You Answered Your Call??? How the Christmas Story can empower athletes and coaches to pursue their Journey

I’m sure you are aware of the Christmas story and how Jesus was born into this world.

But today, we are going to talk about how this story can help you as an athlete and coach for Christ.

The Christmas Story

Let’s break down the story of Christmas into some individual components.

A Seemingly Impossible Call

The angel Gabriel told Mary that she was going to give birth to Jesus, GOD’s Son, to save the world.

For some physiological, biological, and spiritual reasons, this seemed like an impossible call.

Answering Yes

Despite the seemingly impossible call, Mary knew it was from GOD and answered “YES” to the call.

A Long, Arduous Journey

Mary and Joseph went on a long, arduous journey to Bethlehem.

They were rejected by many people and couldn’t find a room to give birth to Jesus.

Making Use of Resources

Mary and Joseph used the resources they had around them to give birth to Jesus.

Bringing Light Into the World

Mary ended up having Baby Jesus, the Light and Savior of the world.

My Question for You Is …

What seemingly impossible call is GOD presenting to you?

The call may seem impossible, and when you answer “YES” to the call, it may lead you down a long, arduous journey where you may be rejected and utilize the resources around you.

But, if the call is from GOD …

You will bring your own authentic light to make an impact on people for now and for eternity.

Athletes

What seemingly impossible call is GOD presenting to you?

How is GOD calling you to use your sport as a platform to make an impact?

The call may seem impossible.

It may lead you down a long, arduous path through grueling workouts and the thrills of victory and the agony of defeat.

You may need to utilize the resources and people around you to help you on the journey.

But if the call is from GOD, Christ’s light will shine through you authentically to make an impact on those around you for now and for eternity.

Coaches

What seemingly impossible call is GOD presenting to you?

How is GOD calling you to use your coaching as a platform to make an impact?

The call may seem impossible.

It may lead you down a long, arduous path through hostile environment that sports create in this world.

You may need to utilize the resources and people around you to help you on the journey.

But if the call is from GOD, Christ’s light will shine through you authentically to make an impact on those around you for now and for eternity.

Are You at Your Fullest Capacity??? How athletes and coaches can pour into the lives of others

Are You at Your Fullest Capacity??? How athletes and coaches can pour into the lives of others

Are you competing at your fullest capacity???

Are you coaching at your fullest capacity???

Are you living at your fullest capacity???

Today, we are going to talk about how you can operate from a sense of fullness to help you pour into the lives of others as an athlete and a coach for Christ.

“I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10)

Filling Up Your Bucket

When I was a kid, I loved to go to a waterpark.

At this waterpark, there was a giant bucket that was filled up by a tiny hose …

Drip by Drip by Drip …

Until finally, it filled to the top and overflowed onto all the kids, soaking them thoroughly.

This bucket reminds me how we too can fill up our buckets in our lives …

Drip by Drip by Drip …

Until we too can pour out into the lives of those around us.

My Question for You Is …

What are you doing to fill up your bucket so you can pour into the lives of those around you?

Athletes

How are you filling your bucket?

Are you:

  • Getting to practice early and leaving late for extra skill training to hone your abilities
  • Hitting the weight room and track to improve your strength and conditioning
  • Filling your body and mind with nutrition and recovering well

As you fill up your bucket, you too will be able to pour into the lives of your teammates.

Coaches

How are you filling your bucket?

Are you:

  • Studying film so you can create the best game plan so your team can be successful
  • Giving your players positive touches like fist bumps so they can feel your energy
  • Spending intentional time with your players so they know how much you care

As you fill up your bucket, you too will be able to pour into the lives of your players.

Athletes and Coaches for Christ

How are you filling your bucket?

What are you doing that will help your passion, love, and authenticity pour into the lives around you?

As you fill up your bucket, you too will be able to pour into the lives of those around, and they won’t be able to help but be inspired by you.

Athletes and coaches for Christ, I wish you well on your journey of filling up your bucket and overflowing into the lives of those around you, and I send love, gratitude, peace, and blessings to you.

Anxiety For Exams??? This prayer should help ... Prayer for students during exams

Anxiety For Exams??? This prayer should help ... Prayer for students during exams

Today I decided to do something a little different.

Many of our students have exams coming up.

With this in mind, I thought we’d have a group prayer.

I have attached an audio that you can download to listen to as we say this prayer together for our students during exam week. You can also follow along with the video.

The Bible says there is power when people come together in prayer.

Well, imagine what we can do for all our students when we pray together!!!

Let me know what you think about this and enjoy!

Last month, I asked you if you would prefer me to start transitioning my content more towards opening up about my faith. After collecting your feedback, it was apparent that you would like me to talk more about faith and how that can help you in sports. With that in mind, moving forward, I will blend my content with the content from FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes). Our message will be based around training you in Godliness ... Helping athletes and coaches to use sports as a platform to experience Christ within them, moving through them, and extending into the world around them. We will help you use sports as a vehicle in your personal walk with faith. I have now created a new content questionnaire that will help me to better understand what specific forms of content you would like and how I can best impact you filling this out so I can better serve you. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me (kyle@kylebunnelle.com) and I am happy to serve you in any capacity possible. Inspiring YOU every step of your way, Kyle
