Beyond Suffering: How to experience fulfillment without pain and suffering
Are you under the impression you need pain and suffering to experience the fulfillment you desire?
Perhaps in the past you have pushed yourself through rigorous gauntlets and …
Sometimes you have breakthroughs, but mostly you end up feeling:
- Worse
- Drained
- Tired
And you never end up experiencing the fulfillment you were seeking in the first place.
Luckily, there is another way,
A way you can experience fulfillment without pushing yourself through unnecessary pain and suffering.
Today, I am going to explain to you:
- 3 Reasons People Believe We Need Pain and Suffering for Fulfillment and
- An Alternative Approach Where You Can Still Experience Fulfillment Without All the Pain and Suffering
Pain and Suffering for Fulfillment
In today’s world, many people believe we need to endure pain and suffering as a rite of passage to receive fulfillment.
I am reminded of the scene in Happy Gilmore when Adam Sandler purposely stood in front of a pitching machine, getting pelted by baseballs, so he could toughen up for the next year’s hockey season.
In the same way, many of us put ourselves through unnecessary suffering for results we desire.
One reason we put ourselves through unnecessary pain and suffering is because:
We Believe We Need to Break Down So We Can Build Up
Many of us see ourselves like a muscle.
When you go to a gym and workout,
You are actually breaking down the muscle.
When you are done working out and you start to recover,
Your muscle grows back stronger.
This is one reason people feel we need pain and suffering.
However, we need to remember …
Our bodies and minds can only be broken down so much before they don’t have the capacity or time to build back up.
Many of us are breaking down our bodies and minds so much that we simply can’t build back up enough.
Forcing ourselves through less pain and suffering will allow us to fully build our bodies and minds so we can experience fulfillment rather than continuously degrading ourselves.
Another reason we put ourselves through unnecessary pain and suffering is because:
We See Pain as a Necessary Punishment for a Wrong Choice
A popular belief is:
If we perform an undesired action,
We should be punished so we won’t perform the action again in the future.
However, the opposite is also true.
When we perform a desired action,
We can reinforce the action so we “do” perform it again in the future.
And studies show …
Reinforcing a desired behavior is a greater indicator for long-term development than punishing a bad behavior.
When we are punished,
Our bodies and minds contract and shut down, but
When we are reinforced,
Our bodies and minds expand and evolve.
By reinforcing desired behaviors, we can have greater long-term development, expand and evolve, and …
Not put ourselves through unnecessary pain and suffering.
A final reason we put ourselves through unnecessary pain and suffering is because:
Many People We See as SUCCESSFUL Endured Times of Suffering and They Promote It
We hear “rags to riches” stories like the Slum Dog Millionaire or George Washington crossing the Delaware River.
We hear celebrities like Muhammad Ali say things like:
“Suffer now and spend the rest of your life like a champion.”
However,
Most of these people didn’t actively pursue suffering.
On the contrary,
Life provided them the challenges they needed when they needed it.
And …
Life provided them the solutions to their challenges when they needed it.
These people didn’t force suffering upon themselves,
And you don’t need to either.
Life will provide you what you need, when you need it …
To help you become the successful, fulfilled person you want to be.
Like I said,
There is another way you can experience fulfillment without unnecessary pain and suffering.
And that is …
To Do What Inspires You
- Listen to your heart
- Listen to your soul
- Do what you are passionate about
When you take action on that,
You are walking the Path you came here to walk.
To Recap
Many people put themselves through unnecessary pain and suffering because:
- They believe they need to break down to build up
- They believe pain is a necessary punishment for doing wrong
- They believe they need it since many successful people faced suffering times and promote it
However, we also learned:
- Our bodies and minds can only be broken down so much before they can’t fully build up
- Reinforcing a desired behavior allows our bodies and minds to expand and evolve and is a greater indicator for long-term development
- Many successful people didn’t actively pursue pain and suffering, but Life gave them the challenges and solutions they needed when they needed it
And …
You can still experience the fulfillment you desire without pushing yourself through all the unnecessary pain and suffering by …
Doing what inspires you!
I wish you well on your journey to pursuing what you are passionate about and I look forward to seeing you next week.
Inspiring YOU every step of your way,
Kyle
